Community Involvement

Community involvement is core to GenoLogics’ corporate culture. Our team can always be motivated by a great cause and a little competition within the high-tech community.

Every Fall, we enjoy competing in the annual VIATeC Food Bank Challenge for the Mustard Seed Foundation.

We also participate in the Canary Derby soapbox car race and put a significant volunteer effort into organizing the annual Canary Derby to raise funds for the BC Cancer Foundation and Canary Project. This research project, underway at the BC Cancer Agency, is dedicated to the early detection of cancer. Each year we compete with other Vancouver Island high-tech firms to raise funds and awareness for this cause. In 2006, GenoLogics raised over $6,500 and in 2007, we more than doubled our donation to over $13,000, and won the Canary Derby fundraising competition.

The Chair of the GenoLogics Board, Don Listwin, founded the Canary Foundation in 2004 in support of scientists, doctors and philanthropists committed to assisting the next generation of cancer fighters on the frontlines of early detection research. Canary Foundation is collaborating with some of the leading cancer research centers in the world to bring even more leverage to bear on the early detection problem. Ultimately, the Foundation’s vision is: A world of simple blood tests which identify and isolate cancer at its earliest most curable stage. Listwin's family, like too many others, has been touched by cancer.
