We are happy to announce the release of BaseSpace Clarity LIMS version 3.5. This release reflects feedback from BaseSpace Clarity LIMS customers and includes enhancements in three areas:

Projects Dashboard

The Projects Dashboard in BaseSpace Clarity LIMS provides lab and project managers with an at-a-glance look at what’s happening in the lab. To make the dashboard even more useful, we made it more interactive. First, you can now collapse or hide workflows from view. This functionality enables users to focus on only the workflows of interest, filtering out other workflows associated with a project.

The Projects Dashboard: Collapsing or expanding workflows can be done by clicking on the arrow to the right of the workflow.

Second, you can now drill down easily into samples. Each of the status numbers acts as a filter. For example, clicking on In Progress samples results in a list below of those 61 samples that are in progress. The same is true for completed samples. Additionally, this same filter action works on the individual protocols in the workflow. In this particular example, clicking on RNA initial QC protocol results in a list of samples and derived samples currently advancing through this protocol and the protocol step each sample has progressed to.

In the list of samples that appears below Workflows you can now view submitted and derived samples. View which derived samples have alerts associated with them and view your first three custom fields in this table as well. Additionally, clicking on the samples takes you to more sample information.

Plate-based Escalations

To accommodate our customers who work solely with plate-based technologies, we created a new configuration. This configuration prevents samples on a plate from progressing in a workflow if any of the other samples on the same plate have issues. When the issue is resolved, all samples are freed for further processing. Customers can enable this feature by contacting GenoLogics Support.

API Enhancements

In addition to being able to view sample information more easily, we extended the application programming interface (API) functionality so that qualified users can perform actions on derived samples directly from the Projects Dashboard without going to another sample or workflow view in the system.

From the list of samples, qualified users can select one or more derived samples and complete actions, such as moving samples to the next step, escalating the sample for lab management, and so forth. Any action that you can perform on derived samples anywhere in the system you can configure to perform from this dashboard.

Selecting samples enables qualified users to complete further actions on the sample from the dashboard without having to go to another area of the interface.

Since not all customers will want to make all functionality available from the project screen we’ve created an easy way to configure the sample actions from a new tab in the configuration screen called Automation.

From this automation tab you can simply click “Add Action” and enter in the name of the action you want to appear in the “Sample Action” dropdown, the API node or “Channel” the script will run on and then enter in the script directly below. After completed, this script will be available from the project dashboard on derived samples.

LabLogic Toolkit

As an extension of our API, we also developed a new toolkit called LabLogic. This toolkit comes with BaseSpace Clarity LIMS Gold and is an option for BaseSpace Clarity LIMS Silver customers. Using this toolkit, you can implement business logic using user-defined fields. For example, users can calculate and track new concentrations after a step by subtracting values from custom fields or automatically set QC flags if an actual value is less than ideal value. No developer skills are needed to use this toolkit.
