BaseSpace Clarity LIMS Integrations: 23 and Counting!

23 Integrations and Counting | Clarity LIMS

As consumers, we often take integration for granted. We open a PowerPoint presentation, insert a visual generated from Excel, and expect it to appear on the slide without issue. Likewise, when we travel, we expect to make our plane reservations online, check in at the airport, check bags, board the plane, and most importantly – arrive on the ground at our destination safely. The sheer number of integrations required to make our world go around is staggering, yet we expect things to work together when we need them to.

Wouldn’t it be nice if our expectations for the integration of laboratory systems kept pace with the other areas of our lives?  Chances are, if you ask a lab manager what expectations they have about integrating their lab systems, you’ll be met with some crestfallen responses. While many expect laboratory systems to integrate, they are well versed in the reality of just how difficult it can be.

Clarity LIMS Lab View

List of possible protocols in the Lab View of BaseSpace Clarity LIMS. These protocols correspond with integrations and can be combined with other protocols to create workflows.

As a laboratory information management system (LIMS) vendor, labs routinely tell us how challenging it can be to introduce a new instrument or get the laboratory information management system (LIMS) to communicate with other systems, such as electronic medical records (EMR), robotics, or downstream analysis tools. Time, resources, and frustration go into this process. As a result, labs often have low expectations about what can be integrated.

At GenoLogics, we work hard to dispel this notion. To save labs time, money, and frustration, we develop integrations between BaseSpace Clarity LIMS and a common set of lab instruments including sequencing systems, bioanalyzers, qPCR stations, and so forth. Our relationships with industry leaders and key vendors enable us to expediently develop out-of-the-box integrations available for use with BaseSpace Clarity LIMS. Each integration is delivered with workflows and protocols for vendor recommended kits. These integrations enable speedy implementations and straightforward lab transitions if new instruments are purchased. Furthermore, in the case a lab needs an integration that we don’t currently support, our application programming interface (API) makes it possible to perform the integration.
